Collection of documents and letters, concerning the foundation of a Rabbinical Seminary in New-York on 213, East Broadway. [1908-1910]. English and Hebrew.
1. Typewritten letter, addressed to the banker and philanthropist Jacob Henri Schiff, from Rabbi Shalom Elhanan Halevi Yaffe (rabbi and Av Beit Din in Beit HaMidrash HaGadol in New-York, author of "Pri Eshel" and other books), and signed by him. New-York, February 1909. Rabbi Yoffe writes to Schiff when Rabeinu Yitzchak Elhanan Yeshivah closed down. The "Rabbinical Seminary" was supposed to fill the gap after the Rabeinu Elhanan Yeshiva was closed, and to train Orthodox rabbis, but did not last long.
2-6. Five emissary letters on behalf of the Seminary, for Haim David Loew. Letters of recommendation and a handwritten power of attorney, from and with signatures and ink-stamps of Rabbi Shalom Elhanan Halevi Yoffe, Rabbi Naftali Riter, Rabbi Aharon Gordon, Rabbi Haim Shalom Shachor and Rabbi Moshe Leib Bernstein.
7. Printed booklet, "Curriculum, Rabbinical Seminary, New York 1909-1910". Detached cover.
8. Three handwritten leaves, draft of curriculum (no. 7), [December 1908].
For additional information about the Rabbinical Seminary, see enclosed material. Size and condition varies.
