The Jewish Question, by R.B. Raphael. Ephraim Deinard printing press, [Newark], 1893. A separate title page for the second part "Nachlat Avot".
A book dealing with the state of Jews in general, and their status in Christian and anti-Semitic societies. The essay criticizes the Reform movement in Judaism. The author states that only the establishment of a Jewish state in Eretz Israel will allow Jews to protect themselves against anti-Semitism and live a spiritual life, and calls Jews in the USA to buy lands in Eretz Israel.
Preceding the title page is a folded plate with a poem by the author - "Zion and America", about the attitude of American Jews to Eretz Israel. Above it appears an illustration of a wandering Jew, a Torah on his back, facing America, and in the background is an Eretz Israeli view with camels and palm trees. The author, disciple of Lithuanian Yeshivot, immigrated to America and was a member of "Hovevei Zion" in Pittsburg.
