Judeo-Persian Manuscript / Handwritten Pages and Letters - Persia, 19th/20th Century
* Manuscript, compositions on laws of ritual slaughter with Judeo-Persian translation. [Kurdistan or Iran, 19th/20th century]. Hebrew and Judeo-Persian.
The manuscript contains two compositions on the laws of ritual slaughter: Avnei Zikaron by the Kabbalist R. Shmuel Barzani [Kurdistan Exilarch in the 16th/17th century], and an additional work by R. Yaakov ben Avraham [compare: S. Asaf, Be'Ohalei Yaakov, p. 138]. Two columns per page - the Hebrew version of the work in one column, and the Judeo-Persian translation in the opposite column. The second work opens with an interesting introduction by the author: "The author said - I have searched and groped and delved into books... and I arranged this volume... for the ritual slaughterers.... and I gathered them from the following poskim... and the custom of Narbona [Narbonne], and the custom of Kandiye [Herakhlion] and the custom of Salonica [Thessaloniki]... And we, here in the East, where the Gentiles eschew our ritual slaughter..." [this segment was published by S. Asaf, ibid].
Glosses and long marginal additions on some of the pages. Title decorations in red ink.
Several pages from another work on the laws of ritual slaughter, in a different handwriting, have been bound in at the end of the manuscript. Following those are printed pages from an assortment of books: several pages from the book "Nachmanides' Critique" (on Maimonides' Sefer Hamitzvot), Istanbul 1510, and others.
28, [1] leaves (one or more leaves at the end of the work may be missing) + [10] handwritten leaves + [18] printed leaves.
* Assorted collection of handwritten pages in Persian script. Hebrew and Judeo-Persian.
The collection includes:
1. Six leaves, of various sizes, with collections and Torah novellae on an assortment of topics. [Oriental-Persian script, unidentified authors].
2. Five letters in Hebrew and Judeo-Persian. Among them is the text of a ban sent to Isfahan (Persia) in 1862, with rabbinical signatures, including the rabbis of Isfahan, along with four additional letters sent from Persia to R. Nissan son of Eliyahu.
11 paper items. Size and condition vary.
