Ze'ev Raban – Two Sketches for Logos – Palmach and "Palestine Post"
Two sketches for logos by Ze'ev Raban.
1. Sketch for a stylized version of te Palmach symbol [1940s].
Ink on paper. Signed (twice) with the ink stamp "Ze'ev Raban, studio for industrial art (formerly Gur Arieh and Raban) Bezalel Yerushalem" (Hebrew).
The Palmach symbol was designed by Aryeh Elchanani after a proposal by a Palmach fighter Shoshana Spector. This sketch portrays an unusually stylized version, probably for pins designed by Raban.
21X23.5 cm. Good condition. Small tears at margins and pinholes. Open tear at upper left corner (not affecting sketch), restored with pasted paper. Stains. Attached to passé-par tout at upper margins.
2. Printed sketch (with markings in pencil) for the logo of "The Palestine Post" newspaper. [1932]. Signed (twice) with ink stamp "Ze'ev Raban, studio for industrial art (formerly Gur Arieh and Raban) Besalel Yerushalem" (Hebrew).
This newspaper was founded in 1927 by Gershon Agron as "The Palestine Bulletin". In 1932 the name was changed to "The Palestine Post" and this logo appeared on the front page until 1937.
Approx. 28X9.5 cm. Good condition. Creases. Stains. Attached at upper margins to passé-par tout.
