Two sketches for emblems designed for the Polish Armed Forces by Ze'ev Raban. [1940s].
1. Sketch for a shield for Legia Oficerska (officers legion), a division of the Polish Armed Forces in the West (Army of Free Poland) that later on became part of Anders' Army.
Pencil on paper. Stamped with the ink-stamp "Industrial Art Studion M. Gur Arieh & Z. Raban Bezalel Jerusalem". Signed by hand by Raban and dated 15.7.42.
The sketch portrays a woman with a halo around her head, spreading her arms to protect a ship with the legion's emblem below it. Along the margins of the shield appears the caption: "Matce Bożej Częstochowskiej Królowej korony polskiej w holdzie legia oficerska", and the date 25.v.1941.
28.5X22 cm. Good-fair condition. Tears and open tears along the margins of the sketch. Creases. Stains. Attached to passé-par tout.
2. Sketch for a medal (?) to Polish Army soldiers, [1940s].
Pencil and watercolor on paper. Signed on verso with the ink-stamp: "Ze'ev Raban, studio for industrial art (formerly Gur Arieh and Raban) Bezalel Yerushalem". (Hebrew).
The sketch portrays a cross with a white eagle behind it – Polish coat of arms.
21.5X14 cm. Good condition. Slight tears at margins. Stains.
