Siddur HaShalom (Soviet Russia) - Two Editions
Siddur HaShalom, year round prayers - Moscow, 1956; 1968.
This siddur was published by the religious community of Moscow, under the eyes of the communist rule who preferred that the synagogue in Moscow continue its activities openly for the whole world to see, but only by the elderly belonging to the old world. The siddur was printed without a Russian translation to prevent Russian youth from being attracted to Judaism. [Found on Page 71 is an interesting censor correction - in Al HaNissim, "al hamilchamot" (on the wars) was erased].
Printed on the title page of the 1957 edition: "Edited by the Head of the Religious Community of Moscow, Rabbi Shlomo¦ Shleifer", whereas printed on the title page of the 1968 edition: "Edited by Rabbi Yehuda Leib Levine Rabbi of Moscow".
On Page 2, title page in Russian. On Page 479, introduction in Russian. Pages 5-6, introductions on prayer and peace. Pages 7-12, learning to read and Russian transcription of the Hebrew alphabet and Hebrew vowels.
Both volumes: 479 pages. 25.5 cm. / 24.5 cm. (Page 479 in the first copy is attached from another copy). Good condition. Original fabric covers.
