"Do not Trust a Fox in the Meadow and a Jew's Oath" – an Anti-Semitic Children's Book – Nuremberg, 1936
Trau keinem Füchs auf grüner Heid und keinem Jud bei seinem Eid! [do not trust a fox in the meadow and a Jew's oath]. Nuremberg: Der Stürmer, 1936. German. "Do not trust a fox in the meadow and a Jew's oath", the first of three anti-Semitic children's books published by "Der Stürmer", an anti-Semitic newspaper edited by Julius Streicher, a leading figure of the Nazi regime in Germany who was sentenced to death in the Nuremberg trials.
The book was written by Elvira Bauer, an 18-year-old art history student, and was used in many schools. The book compares between Jews and "typical" Germans, explains the traits which are characteristic of Jews and of Jewish names, and ends with the phrase coined by Heinrich von Treitschke and which was adopted as a motif by the newspaper "Der Stürmer":"The Jews are our Misfortune".
Accompanied by colour illustrations by Philipp Ruppeerecht, a caricaturist known mainly for the anti-Semitic caricatures published in "Der Stürmer" under the pen-name Fips. [21] leaves, 25X19.5 cm. In general – in good condition. Hard cover, the original cover is mounted on the front. Stains. Tears and minor damages at margin of leaves – all are professionally restored. Not original forzats. Contained in a fine cardboard box.
