Naomi Shemer (1930-2004)
An Israeli songwriter, composer and singer, native of Kvutzat Kineret. Wrote and composed hundreds of Israeli songs portraying life in Israel from a patriotic point of view. A climax in Shemer's musical career was reached when she composed the song "Jerusalem of Gold", for a song festival that took place in Jerusalem in 1967. Shortly after the premiere performance of that song, the Six-Day war broke out and Shemer added a new verse to the song in which she contrasted the situation before the war with the one following it. As a result of composing "Jerusalem of Gold" Shemer turned to be in the eyes of many, the national Israeli songwriter. Shemer won the Prize of Israel for Hebrew Songwriting.
25 photos of Naomi Shemer. Photos during performances, with the family, with Ariel Sharon, writing at her desk, playing the piano, drinking coffee, etc.
