Kishon was born in Hungary by the name of Ferenc Hoffmann. When he began to publish articles he did so under the name Franz Kishunt. Kishon was an author, satirist, playwright, screenwriter and director of Israeli films and theater plays, won the Prize of Israel. Kishon was of the most famous Israeli satirists and directors worldwide and was the first to be nominated for a film he directed as candidate for the Academy Award. Kishon was the first Israeli director who won the Golden Globe.
