Collection of issues of "Aleph", a periodical edited by Aharon Amir, Uriel Shelach (Yonatan Ratosh) and Avshalom Hofshi. Israel, 1950-1972.
1-19. Issues no. 1-19, April 1950 - April 1953.
20-22. Issues of November 1971, January 1972, May 1972.
The periodical "Aleph" of "HaIvrim HaTze'irim" movement (formerly "HaVaad LeGibush HaNo'ar HaIvri") was published and edited by Aharon Amir and Yonatan Ratosh together with other movement members and their associates including Adaya Horon (A.G. Horon), Uzi Ornan [Ratosh's brother], Amos Keinan, Binyamin Tamuz and others. The movement was founded in 1939, and reached its peak in Eretz Israel in the 1940s, influencing political thought, art, literature and intellectual life in Eretz Israel and the State of Israel. The members tried to draw a line between people who lived in Eretz Israel in the second millennium BCE, and the Jewish people in the 20th century, while trying to create a new-old culture, and disengage from Jewish tradition. The name "Canaanites" was chosen, somewhat ironically, by the poet Avraham Shlonsky. 34 cm. Overall good condition. Minor tears. Ex-library copies.
