Manuscript, Homilies of Rabbi Shlomo Ben David - 1870s
Manuscript, homilies on the Torah and a Bar Mitzvah sermon. By Rabbi Shlomo Ben David. [Oriental countries, Turkey? / Greece? 1870s].
Nice-looking Oriental writing. The first part of the notebook is written in alternating colors (red, blue and black) every 4-5 lines. The rest is written in regular black ink.
We do not recognize the name of the author but from the flowery opening homily, we glean that his name seems to be Rabbi Shlomo Ben David. At the end of each section of the opening, the author signs "Shlomo". Upon mentioning his father he writes "Magen David shall help him". Upon mentioning one of his brothers he writes "The G-d of Avraham should assist him" [apparently his name is Avraham] and he explicitly mentions his other brother by his name "Yehuda". In the middle of the notebook there is a sermon for the bar-mitzvah of his son David. "…Eve of the 14th of Shevat 1879.
43 written pages. 21 cm. High quality paper. Good condition. Stains and wear. Ancient, half-leather damaged binding.
