Fine Esther Scroll in a Filigree Case - Poland
Esther Scroll. [Central Poland, late 19th or early 20th century].
Ink on thin vellum; filigree silver.
"Hamelech" scroll (most columns open with the word "Hamelech"), with special serifs decorating the word "Hamelech". Fine scribal script, with serifs (tagim), 28 lines per column, on thin vellum membranes of good quality.
Rolled in a silver case adorned with filigree craftsmanship.
Height of vellum: 9.5 cm, height of case: 18 cm. Scroll in good condition; tear and some stains at the beginning of first membrane. Some breaks and bends to case, with damage to filigree, making it somewhat difficult to roll the scroll into and out of the case.
