Two volumes containing high-quality photographs of the city of Jaffa and its environs, by Frank Scholten (1881–1942), including photographs of local inhabitants, craftsmen and visitors, members of all the ethnic and religious groups (Albert Einstein is in one photograph), landscapes, fruits and vegetation, and more.
The first volume contains 449 photographs, and the second volume contains 371 photographs. A relevant verse from the Bible, the Talmud, or the Koran is printed beside each photograph. Edition of 1000 copies.
Volume I: XXXII, 203, XXXII–XLVI, [1] pp., + [202] plates; Volume 2: XXX, 170, XXXI–XLII, [1] pp., + [168] plates. 27.5 cm. Good condition. A few stains. Hardcover bindings, with the original dust jackets. Tears (some of them open) in the dust jackets.
