She'erit Yehudah, including the miracle of saving Israel by Mordechai and Esther…(Hebrew) divided into four parts, by S[hlomo] Y[ehudah] Rapoport from Lvov. Anton Edlen v. Schmid printing press, Vienna, 1827.
A Hebrew translation of the play "Esther" by the French playwright (staged for the first time in 1689). The translator, Rabbi Shlomo Yehudah Rapoport (1790-1867), was one of the Haskalah movement members in Galicia, of the founders of Chochmat Israel, and rabbi of Tarnopol and Prague.
Corrections and short handwritten comments appear on a number of leaves. An inscription was added on the title page – "Proofread according to the author's comments".
84 pp, 18.5 cm. Good condition. Stains, some dark. Worming. Slight creases and damage. Open tears to margins of title page (title page restored with adhesive tape). New binding and endpapers.
