Two Certificates – She'erit Hapletha – Poland, 1945 / Germany, 1947
Two certificates given after the holocaust to Maria Klauszyner and her daughter Lusia (both from Lodz). The certificates record the imprisonment of Lusia in Auschwitz and their travel to Palestine after staying in Germany.
1. Zaswiadczenie, a certificate on behalf of the Polish Red Cross. Oświęcim (Auschwitz), 1945. Polish. A certificate issued on March 1945 for Lusia Kaluszyner, indicating that she was imprisoned in Auschwitz-Birkenau from July 30, 1944 until the liberation of the camp in January 1945.
A printed certificate, with typewritten details filled in, signed by hand by a representative of the Polish Red Cross, ink-stamped with a stamp of the Red Cross hospital in Oświęcim and an additional ink-stamp.
After the liberation of Auschwitz concentration and extermination camp, the Polish Red Cross established field hospitals, where thousands of the camp's prisoners were treated. Certificates like this one were given upon being discharged from the field hospitals.
Approx. 15X10.5 cm. Fair condition. Stains. Creases, tears and wear. The certificate is torn lengthwise (the two parts are attached with two pieces of adhesive tape).
2. Temporary Travel Document in lieu of passport for stateless persons and persons of undetermined nationality, a certificate on behalf of the Military Government for Germany (the military government in post-World war II Allied-occupied Germany). [Germany, ca. 1947].
A temporary travel document in the name of Maria Klauszyner, who was defined as "stateless". The document was issued in Bad Salzuflen (Germany) and it includes a photograph of the certificate owner and a visa for travel to Palestine, for her and her daughter. On the last page of this document appears an ink-stamp of "Moetza Mekomit 'Givatayim', Va'adat HaAspaka" (supply committee of Givatayim) and the inscription "Registered for supply of sugar 26.10.1947" (Hebrew).
24 pp, 14.5 cm. Lacking wrappers. Good condition. Numerous stains. Slight creases.
