Two handwritten ledgers, documenting loans and other financial data related to the settlers in Palestine and its vinicity. [Palestine? early decades of the 20th century]. English and some Hebrew and Arabic.
* Ledger, apparently recording loans to settlers in Palestine. Each page is dedicated to one person. At the top of the page are his name and address (in English, and occasionally in Hebrew or Arabic) followed by a chart with details of the payments received (amounts and dates). Signed declarations which attest to receiving obligations appear on some pages. Most of the people whose names appear in the book resided in various neighborhoods of Jerusalem, and some dwelled in other cities (Bethlehem, Safed, etc.).
Approximately 230 written pages + blank leaves. 34 cm. Fair condition. Stains, creases and tears. Detached or loose leaves and signatures. Damaged and loose binding.
* Ledger recording data related to various banks. At the top of each page is the name of the bank and year (ca. 1886-1922) followed by lists of names and serial numbers. Among the names of the banks are Credit Foncier Egyptien (a French bank located in Egypt), Belgiques, Hollandais, Halva'a V'Chisachon. Some leaves bear ink stamps from the late 1920s. A paper label of Joseph L. Chagise appears on inner side of the front cover.
Approximately 60 written pages, 35 cm. Good-fair condition. Stains. Creases and minor defects. Damaged binding, with tears to margins and to spine.
