A postcard from the fifth Zionist Congress in Basle, signed by David Wolffsohn, 1901
An official postcard issued in honor of the fifth Zionist congress in Basle with an illustration of the painter Efrayim Moshe Lilien, the first Zionist artist. The illustration depicts an image of an angel approaching an old Jew in the Diaspora and pointing towards the horizon, there you can see a Jew plowing the land in Israel in light of the sunrise. Under the illustration there is an inscription: "And our eyes shall see your return to Zion in mercy".
The postcard is signed by David Wolffsohn (first name only) and the postmark of the Basle post from the days after the congress. Sent from Basel to Germany.
David Wolffsohn (1855-1914), a Zionist leader and activist. The second president of the Zionist Federation after Herzl's death. He designed the Flag of Israel.
Condition: Very good. A hole on the side.
