a. Rabbi Moshe Yehoshua Diskin Responsa - Jerusalem 1903-1911 - a Printing that Lasted Nine Years [!] and Caused an Extensive Polemic - Rare!
The book was published by "Chedvat Yisrael" Publication, whose managers were Rabbi Avraham Sonnenfeld and Rabbi Menachem Mendel Ha'Kevi Wolpo. Single edition (lately, facsimile editions have been printed). The introduction to the book before us (which is one of approximately four copies only) specifies the goals of the publication. The book includes approbations of the rabbis of Jerusalem.
Mice had started to ruin the manuscripts from which the book was printed and the writing began to disappear. At the last moment, they were saved and given to Rabbi Moshe Harlap, who gave them to Rabbi Avraham Sonnenfeld to be printed. The printing of the book started in 1903.
The printing of the book caused a dispute involving the rabbis and Dayanim of Jerusalem. Rabbi Yitzchak Yerucham, Rabbi Diskin's son, protested against the printer, Rabbi Sennenfeld and claimed rabbi Sonnenfeld had no right to publish the Rabbi Diskin's manuscripts without the permission of his son and heir.
Two of the rabbis who gave their approbation, the Aderet and Rabbi Elyashar, went back on their approbation and expressed their apologies. The printing was stopped and was not completed until 1911, after the death of these two rabbis.
