Letter by the Sephardic Rashei Avot Beit Din of Jerusalem to the Rebbe Rabbi Avraham Ya'akov Friedman of Sadigura – Jerusalem, 1949 – about the Representative of the Sephardic Community of the United Religious Front in the First Knesset
A letter with a request by the Rishon Le'Zion, Rabbi Ben Zion Chai Uziel, to enable Rabbi Eliyahu Pardes to the join the United Religious Front as the representative of the Sephardic community. The letter was sent to the Rebbe Rabbi Ya'akov Friedman of Sadigura on the 19th of Tevet 1949. With the signatures of the rabbis: Rabbi Chizkiya Shabtai, Rosh Av Beit Din of Jerusalem (with his stamp), Rabbi Binyamin ben Rabbi Asher Levi, Rabbi Mordechai Meyuchas and Eabbi Yehuda Ha'Cohen Shako. To these are added the signatures of the members of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel: Rabbi Shalom Amram Azulai and Rabbi Ya'akov Ades.
Rabbi Avraham Ya'akov was one of the first leaders of Agudat Yisrael/ before the, he founded, together with additional Rebbes, the "Agudat Ha'Charedim" of Chernovitz. For many years, he was a member of Mo'etzet Gedolei Ha'Torah and for a short period of time, served as its president. He wholeheartedly supported the settlement of the Land of Israel and supported the cooperation with Ha'Mizrachi.
Rabbi Chizkiya Shabtai (1862-1955)was Rosh Av Beit Din of the Sephardic community of Jerusalem and before them the deputy of the Chacham Bashi of Jaffa, the Chacham Bashi of Tripoli and Halab (Allepo). He was the founder of the "Sha'arei Orah" Yeshiva and author of the 'Divrei Chizkiya' Responsa.
