A letter sent by 'Ohel Moshe' Yeshiva to Reb Yitzchak Meir Levin, the chairman of the international 'Agudat Yisrael'. The letter is signed by the directors of the Yeshiva. Under their signatures, a short addition by instisiution head Rabbi Zelig Reuven Bangis is typewritten with his handwritten signature. 11.9.1942.
In the letter, the heads of the institution congratulate Rabbi Levin in honor of the new year and ask him to increase his financial support of the Yeshiva, whose students "are literally hungry for bread", by means of its representative Rabbi Baruch Deutch.
In his youth, Rabbi Zelig Reuben Bangis (1864-9.9.1953) studied in Volozhin Yeshiva and became one of its select students. He served as a rabbi and rabbinical judge in small towns in the Diaspora and in 1938 immigrated to Israel to serve as Rosh Av Beit Din of the Eda Haredit in Jerusalem. He served as head of 'Ohel Moshe' Yeshiva. In 1949, he was appointed Gaon Av Beit Din and served in this role until his death.
Leading rabbis greatly admired Rabbi Bangis' genius. Thus, for example, his friend Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak HaCohen Kook called him 'the true genius', a title that he reserved only for outstanding people of previous generations!
The letter was typewritten with black and red ink on the official stationery of 'Ohel Moshe' Yeshiva.
Very good condition. A slight tear due to filing holes.
