A letter from the Grand Rabbi Shalom Noah Berzovsky of Slonim to the editorial staff of the newspaper 'HaYoman' of 'Agudat Yisrael'. The letter was sent in the early spring of 1948, following the publication of the first issue of the newspaper.
In his letter, the Grand Rabbi writes: "There are no words to express the feelings of joy from this courageous step of yours. It is a big day for all of us and for all those who are capable of appreciating a newspaper of 'Agudat Yisrael' … especially before the political decision [regarding the establishment of the State of Israel]." At the end of the letter, the Grand Rabbi asks to be added as a subscriber of the newspaper.
The letter was typewritten on the official stationery of 'Beit Avraham' Yeshiva and is signed by hand by the Grand Rabbi.
Grand Rabbi Shalom Noah Berzovsky (1911-2000) was the founder and head of 'Beit Avraham' yeshiva in Jerusalem. He was the author of the 'Netivot Shalom' series of Hassidic books. Since 1981, he served as the Grand Rabbi of Slonim. He was a member of the Council of Great Torah Sages and a leader of the Hinukh Atzmai school system.
