Rabbi Yechezkel Feigin was the secretary of Grand Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneersohn of Lubavitch. The letter before us was written by Rabbi Feigin in the Grand Rabbi' s name and was sent to Rabbi Chanoch Hendel Havlin (1919-1967), the head of 'Torat Emet' Yeshiva in Jerusalem and one of the most important Chabad Hassidim in Israel. Between the years 1927-1947, Rabbi Havlin served as the Grand Rabbi's representative in Israel in his actions for Russian Jewry and worked hard to obtain certificates for Chabad Hassidim in the USSR. The letter before us was sent during this period.
In the letter, which was written "in name of the Grand Rabbi" on 3.7.1932, the Grand Rabbi thanks Rabbi Havlin for his blessings in honor of his daughter Sheine's wedding: "With joy I read his [your] blessing of Mazal Tov and he who blesses, G-d will bless him in return in what he spiritually or materially needs." The letter is handwritten and signed by Rabbi Feigin.
Grand Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneersohn (1880-1950) was the sixth Grand Rabbi of Chabad-Lubavitch. Together with his father, he founded the 'Tomchei Temimim' Yeshivot. He became Grand Rabbi in 1920, was arrested by the Communists and released in 1927. He arrived in Poland from Russia and in 1940 immigrated to Brooklyn. He was known for his total devotion and leadership of his Hassidim who remained in Russia, and for his self-sacrifice in observing and studying the Torah under the Communist regime.
