This is the original printing of this foundational kabbalistic siddur.

The siddur is based on the customs of Ashkenazic-Polish Jewry, with the Arizal’s customs “as per the Sephardic version” added separately.

sefer Ohr Hayashar was widely used amongst Kabbalists and they prayed according to the texts in this sefer. The Sar Shalom of Belz attests that his “entry to yiras shamayim was through this siddur” (see the approbation of his son, the Admor Rabbi Yehoshua of Belz, to Rabbi Moshe of Premishla’s siddur [printed in 1892]).

Many of the customs and rituals instituted by Rabbi Meir Paprish were widely accepted and are followed daily.

Rabbi Meir Paprish originally named his sefer Ohr Tzaddikim (Hamburg, 1690), the present edition was edited by Rabbi Tzvi Hersh Chazzan who changed its name to Ohr Hayashar and appended the siddur to it . This edition has since been used as the basis for all future editions of Ohr Hayashar.
