Interesting Letter by Rav Moshe Zaks, One of the First Hungarians to Move to Eretz Yisrael. One of the Founders of the Hod Kollel. Trieste 5589 [1829]

The letter was sent to the heads of the Trieste community, while he was staying there on his way to Eretz Yisrael. In this letter he relates that his soul's yearning is to reach the Holy Land, but he needs to stay in Trieste for another two weeks until his boat will depart- and he has nothing.
He tells a bit about himself in the letter, and that he was the disciple of Rav Mordechai Bennet and learned in the Yeshivos of Fiorda and Paks.

Rav Moshe Zaks (5560-5630) was one of the first Germans to make Aliya to Eretz Yisrael and the head of the famous Zaks family in Jerusalem. He was active for around forty years in aiding the settlement of Eretz Yisrael. Of the founders of 'Battei Machse', he set out to Europe as a fundraiser for Kollel Hod. He was a great activist for the Jews of Eretz Yisrael and published many articles in the newspapers of the time [Toldos Chachmei Yerushalayim Part 3 page 260].

Trieste (Italy) 5589 [1829].
Page size: 20x30 cm.
