Rabbi Shimon ben Tzemach Duran, the Rashbatz (1361-1444), one of the Rishonim. Born in Spain and was the disciple of Rabbi Vidal Ephraim the disciple of the Ran. During the pogroms of 1391, he escaped to Algeria, where he became the disciple of the Ribash and eventually succeeded him as the Rav of Algiers. Author of Shut HaTashbetz and additional Seforim.
Rabbi Shlomo ben Rabbi Shimon Duran, the Rashbash (ca. 1400-1467) succeeded of his father the Rashbatz as Rav of Algiers. Author of Shut HaRashbash, Milchement Mitzvah and Tikkun Sofrim of Dinei Shtarot.
