Holy letters, attributed to the Besht and his disciples, from the Khersonian Genizah. Chernowitz, [1921].

"Holy letters copied letter for letter from holy manuscripts of Maran the holy Ba'al Shem Tov and the Rav the Maggid ... of Mezeritch and their pious disciples". With "Likutei Oros" by the holy Rav the "Abir Yaakov" of Sadigure and his son the "Pachad Yitzchak" of Boian. Hernik and Birenboim Press, Chernowirz, [1921].

32 pp. 15 cm. [36] letters [marked 1-24, 22-33]. From the 40 letters that were published in Sefer Likutim Talpiyos (Wien, 1921) with order variations and textual variations. With "Likutei Oros" containing Imros by the holy Rav Avraham Yaakov Friedman of Sadigura and by his son the holy Rav Yitzchak of Boian.

Background: In the foreword by the publishers, they state that the letters printed in this Sefer were copied from the original manuscripts of the Besht and his disciples. They say there that Maran Rabbi Yisroel of Ruzhin had the letters and when he was captured, the Russian authorities took them. After the 1917 revolution, the letters reached the Admor of Boian the holy Rav Rabbi Menachem Nachum [Friedman] living in Chernowitz.

Over the years, there was controversy regarding the authenticity of these letters, which were supposedly found in a "Genizah" in Kherson, Russia after the revolution. See: M. Rossman, HaBesht Mechadesh HaChassidus, Jerusalem 2000, pp. 161-163.

New binding, restoration to the margins of the title page, restoration to the last leaf affecting the text, considerable stains, blemishes to the margins of some leaves not affecting the text. Fair-good condition.
