The first letter was written to the philanthropist Rabbi Sher of Cape Town, on large stationery bearing the official blank of 'Va'ad HaYeshivas in Vilna' and was sent on the 14th of Iyar 1931. In it, Maran the Gaon Rabbi Chaim Ozer thanks Rabbi Sher on behalf of Va'ad HaYeshivas for his donation to Va'ad HaYeshivas from the funds raised by the Gaon Rav Rabbi Yosef Lipman Gurevitz of Vilna. He also pleads with him to send an additional donation 'since the situation of the yeshivas is bad and their entire existence is in danger due to the terrible crisis in our country'. Rabbi Chaim ends with the blessing 'עץ חיים היא למחזיקים בה ותומכיה מאושרים'.
The address of the chairman to which the funds should be sent Rabbi Ch. O. Grodzienski. 17 Zawalna.
The letter is typewritten, stamped with a stamp in the form of Maran Rabbi Chaim Ozer's signature and with his personal stamp 'Chaim Ozer Grodzinski Vilna', an unknown stamp.
