מבנה בית הכנסת שימש למחבר אב טיפוס ומודל השפעה לעיצובם של מבנים רבים בעיר, גם כאלו שאינם יהודים. בית הכנסת נבנה 7 שנים לפני הוצאת הספר, בשנת 1861, ונחרב בליל הבדולח.
