Armenian Pottery Vase – Jerusalem, Palestine
Armenian ceramic vase, decorated with a vegetal pattern on a blue background in the iznik style. Painted and heavily glazed clay. Apparently, stamped at the bottom: “Palestine made”, alongside indistinct marks and writings. Circa 1930.
The Armenian pottery workshop in Jerusalem was founded in 1919, at the end of WWI, when the British invited the master potter David Ohannessian to help with the restoration of the tiles of the Dome of the rock mosque in Jerusalem.
Height: approximately 27 cm. Good condition, chips, cracks, glue residues at the bottom, wear.
