Armenian Pottery Plate – Jerusalem, Palestine
Armenian ceramic plate, decorated with a vegetal pattern. Painted and glazed clay. Stamped on the back: Jerusalem, alongside indistinct marks and writings. Circa 1930.
The Armenian pottery workshop in Jerusalem was founded in 1919, at the end of WWI, when the British invited the master potter David Ohannessian to help with the restoration of the tiles of the Dome of the rock mosque in Jerusalem.
Diameter: approximately 18 cm. Good condition, wear.
