Letter with Passover Greetings from the Lubavitcher Rebbe, 23 Adar, 1955

Letter from the Admo"r of Lubavitch to Rabbi Shlomo Yosef Zevin, Av Beit Din of the Chaba"d rabbinical court and member of the Chief Rabbinic Council. 23 Adar 1945. Brooklyn, New York.

The Rebbe opens his letter with blessings: "May it be His will that the entire matter be concluded in an open victory, as befits our president ... both materially and spiritually, and that very soon the Torah of truth will be increased from a place of calm and tranquility." The Rebbe concludes his letter with blessings: "May [you] celebrate [the Passover festival] with kashrut and joy in good health."

Later on in the letter, the Rebbe attacks the [rabbinate's?] decision, "It's a little astonishing, perhaps more than a little, - the decision regarding such a simple and understandable matter. This has certainly become one of the issues darkened twice over and again towards the coming of mashiach." The Rebbe continues his attack: "A man does not live together with a snake"; "Insult to the honor of our president"; "Informs and plots in vain"; "These types of issues are dealt with in known ways" - the Rebbe is referring here to bans and excommunications and beyond.

[1] leaf official stationery, 28 cm. The letter is typewritten, with the addition of four words, several letters and punctuation marks in the Rebbe's hand, with his signature at the end. Fine condition. Fold marks. Filing perforations. Minimal aging stains.
