A photograph of prisoners from the KZ Stutthof [Poland] death camp, returning to the camp from the day they worked in forced labor.

Most Stutthof prisoners used the Germans as forced laborers. There were prisoners who worked in business owned by the SS, such as the German factories located near the camp. Others worked in the local brick factory, in private industrial establishments, in agriculture, or in camp workshops. In 1944, as forced labor of concentration camp inmates became more and more important in weapons production, the Poke Wolf aircraft factory was built in Stutthof. In the end, the Nazis made the Stutthof camp a wide network of forced labor camps. 105 Stutthof sub-camps were established throughout northern and central Poland. The camp was established in 1939 in eastern Prussia and was the last camp the Red Army forces liberated in 1945. In total, there were about 110,000 people arrested, of whom more than 85,000 perished.
