A book of Jewish thoughts, by Chief Rabbi Joseph Herman Hertz, with a handwritten inscription by the author in 1942. With a portrait of the author.
Chief Rabbi Joseph Herman Hertz (1872-1946), was born in Hungary and in 1884, immigrated to the United States where he studied in various prestigious institutions. His first ministerial post was at Syracuse, New York. Following a number of years in as a Rav in Transvaal, South Africa, in 1913, he was elected Chief Rabbi of the United Hebrew Congregations of the British Empire where he served until his passing. His tenure as Chief Rabbi spanned both World Wars as well as the tumultuous period of the British mandate of Palestine.
