Photograph Album of British Soldier in Palestine in Olive Wood Binding
Photograph album belonging to a British soldier who served in Palestine. Circa 1940. 62 photographs, arranged in an album and titled in handwriting in English. The photos document views and events in Jerusalem and Palestine, including: A.S.C. (Australian Soldiers’ Club) and the Matson Photo Service shop, Soldiers marching in modern Jerusalem, the Wailing Wall, Jaffa Gate, New Gate, Dead Sea and Good Samaritan Inn.
Some of the photographs are described in print on the back, without the publisher's name; some are by Palphot, and bears the company stamp on the back; some are apparently private photos.
The photos are set in a decorative leather album, made in Palestine, with a copper plaque viewing the Tower of David in Jerusalem. The first page bears the owner's name in handwriting: R. W. Underwood, Chepstow Dec 1942.
Dimensions of the photographs: approximately 8X6.5 cm on average. Good condition, stains, creases, wear. Dimensions of the album: approximately 24X14 cm. Good condition, wear, missing photos.
