'עומדים אנו בין הפטיש לסדן' (We stand between the hammer and the anvil)! Very important historical letter hand written and signed by the holy Moron Rabbi Meir Shapiro of Lublin, about the building of his Yeshivat Chachmei Lublin.
Very important and rare letter from the renowned Gaon Rabbi Meir Shapiro of Lublin, several days before the scheduled date for the historic inauguration of his splendid Yeshiva in Lublin. In it he presents with concern the missing funds which can postpone the inauguration from the original time committed of Laag BeOmer 1929.
The letter was sent to the World Torah Foundation of Agudat Yisrael, in it the gaon Rabbi Meir thanked for their decision to support the Yeshivat Chachmei Lublin. The gaon Rabbi Meir Shapiro requests to receive the protocol of the meeting pleading and imploring: 'אלמלי היה באמת עם נפשכם עשות דבר גם בעד מוסדנו כי אז הארתם לנו עין והייתם לנו לברכה'
Adding and writes:
עומדים אנו בין הסדין והפטיש מצד זה היינו חפצים לשמור ההבטחה ולעשות החנוכה ביום הנועד 'ל"ג בעומר'' ומצד שני מחסור גדול שורר באסמינו לגמור הבנין'. ('We are standing between the hammer and the anvil, on one side we want to keep the promise and make the inauguration on the day of Lag BeOmer, and from the other side is a great shortage to finish the building'), כתבו לנו דברים ברורים למען לא תהי' בכלל תוחלת ממושכה ולמען נדע איך לכלכל הדברים...
Official letter head paper of the gaon Rabbi Meir Shapiro abd and Rosh Yeshiva of Pietrekov and its surroundings, in his last year he served in this city before he was selected as Rav of Lublin. All personally hand written and signed. Especially striking and beautiful signature. On top of the letter the gaon Rabbi Meir Shapiro marked the Daf HaYomi: 'מס' ע"ז ל"ט' (Tractate Avoda-Zara page 39).
