R. Elchonon Wasserman. Lot of two rare pamphlets. Yiddish pamphlet unrecorded.
In this critical hour. An analysis of the Jewish tragedy its causes and solutions.
Historical pamphlet written by R. Elchonon Wasserman about the dismal state of Orthodox Jewry and the proposed steps to rectify the situation. Published by Yeshiva Torah Vodaath, presumably during R. Elchonon’s final visit to America in 1939.
R. Elchonon Bunim Wasserman (1874-1941), learned at the Telshe Yeshiva under R. Lazer Gordon and R. Shimon Shkop, and later became a close disciple of R. Chaim Soloveitchik and the Chofetz Chaim. As Rosh Yeshiva in Baranovitch, he was renowned for his clear and penetrating shiurim which attracted many students. His seforim, Kovetz Shiurim, Kovetz He’oros and Kovetz Ma’amorim are widely studied in Yeshivos. Additionally, he was very involved in communal matters and was one of the leaders of the Agudas Yisroel movement. In 1939 he was visiting America on behalf of the Yeshiva. Despite the precarious situation in Europe with the threat of War imminent, he returned to Europe where he was ultimately murdered in the Holocaust.
Fine condition. Yiddish edition lacking title page and corner of one page ripped with some loss of text.
Opening bid $150
