DESAIX LOUIS CHARLES: (1768-1800) French General, often considered the real winner of the Marengo battle where he died after a shot in his heart at the very early age of 31, & MOREAU JEAN VICTOR (1763-1813) French General who helped Napoleon to power, but later became a rival and was banished. Moreau was mortally wounded in the battle of Dresden. Well remembered for his last words `Be calm, gentlemen; this is my fate´. Two A.Ns.S.,`Desaix´ and `Moreau´, at the base of a D.S. by Adjutant General Edme-Joseph Boulland, one page, folio, Roberfon, 8th November 1796, in French. Both officers recommending the officer chief in charge of the ambulance at Couville for his excellent behaviour and courageous attitude `..in different situations happened since their crossing of the Rhin..´ Small area of paper loss to the left upper edge, not affecting the text or signature.
