Zerah Kodesh. First edition. Furth 1696. Rare!
With detailed description of the banishment of a “Dybuk”. Not included in subsequent editions.
Kabbalistic sefer with various passages and mediations to prevent nocturnal emissions, by R. Moshe Ben Menachem Graf.
In this first edition, there is a fascinating detailed appendix (not included in subsequent editions), describing the exorcism of a Dybuk performed by the author in the town of Nikolsburg in 1696. Some two thousand people witnessed the ceremony. The Dybuk claimed he was a leader of the town of Narol in Poland, and admitted to a host of crimes instigated by his mother, including the murder of two Rabbonim. R. Graf and those assembled offered to fast and undertake further penance on the Dybuk’s behalf. The Dybuk in turn agreed to leave only if R. Graf and one of the Dayanim would recite Kaddish following the recital of Tehillim. R. Graf thereupon proclaimed the Ineffable Name, whilst the congregation prayed and seven shofars were simultaneously sounded. The final page lists the twelve Dayanim and communal leaders of Nikolsburg, including R. Dovid Oppenheimer, all attesting to the veracity of the incident.
