Chovas Halvavos. Printed by R. Shlomo Yarush. Lemberg 1791. Rare.
Chovas HaLevavos, printed by R. Shlomo Yarush Rappaport just 3 years after he printed the Noam Elimelech.
With approbations by R. Tzvi Hirsch Meizlish of Zolkiew, R. Yosef of Zamosc and R. Meir of Brod. According to Chasidic tradition the printers who worked in the printing press of R. Shlomo Yarush were among “The Hidden Tzadikim”. This Chovas HaLevavos has a striking resemblance both on the title page and in the general format to the first edition Noam Elimelech.
The 4 pages of approbations and the 18 pages of corrections are not recorded by Vinograd. Vinograd records a second title page, which does not appear in this copy.
Vinograd Lemberg 64. Shlomo Yarush Rappaport press. [4], 46, 215 [18] pages. 15 cm. Overall good condition. Some worming on the first few pages. Closely shaved affecting many headings. Antique binding.
Opening bid $250
