Received as a gift from R. Shaul HaLevy of The Hague.
Important Kabbalistic work by R. Mordechai Ashkenazy, including a commentary to the introduction of the Zohar, as well as on parts of the Zohar on Bereishis and Shemos.
In his introduction the author writes how his work is imperative to gaining a true understanding to the mysteries of the Zohar. With various Kabbalistic charts and diagrams. The author dedicated this work to his Rebbe, R. Avrohom Rovigo, hence the name Aishel Avrohom. With warm approbations of many that era’s great Rabbonim, including R. Dovid Oppenheim of Prague.
On the flyleaf it states that “this sefer Aishel Avrohom was given to me as a wedding gift by…R. Shaul Halevy…on the 4th of Tammuz 5525 (1765)”.
R. Shaul Halevy (1714-1785), was as a tremendous Talmid Chochom, particularly known for his piety. It is told that for many years he fasted every all day and did not sleep in a bed. He served a Rav in Emden and The Hague. He was the brother-in-law of the famed R. Shaul of Amsterdam.
