Teshuvos R. Dovid HaKohen M’Corfu. MaHaRDaCH. First edition. Constantinople 1537. Rare. תשובות ר’ דוד הכהן מקורפו. מהדר”ך. מהדורה ראשונה. קושטא רצ”ז (1537). נדיר.
Handwritten rabbinical glosses.
Early work of halachic responsa by R. Dovid ben Chaim HaKohen, who lived in the early 15th century and was Rav in Corfu and later in Patras, Greece. He was a disciple of the great R. Yehuda Mintz (MaHaRI Mintz). The title page of these responsa tells of the miraculous rescue of the manuscript from a fire in the home of the author’s son R. Chaim Cohen in Adrianople (Edirne), Turkey. There is a typographical curiosity on pages 183-184, unlike the rest of the book, the text is double-spaced rather than single-spaced.
Lacking pages 1, 8, 225, filled in an early Ashkenazic script. Various unidentified learned glosses in an early Ashkenazic script.
Vinograd Constantinople 160. Soncino press. 222 (of 225) pages. 20 cm. Excellent condition. Some minor staining on the margins. Modern binding.
Opening bid $2000
