Passover Haggadah with Original Etchings Signed by Artist Ya'akov Boussidan - 1975

Passover haggadah, fruit of the labor of artist Ya'akov Boussidan [b. 1939]. Boussidan attached 30 color etchings depicting various scenes from the haggadah and from Genesis to the artistically written haggadah. Alongside etchings associated with the traditional text, Boussidan added etchings which depict the six days of Creation, images of humans at his inception, and more. Israel, 1975. copy number 42/

50.

Boussidan produced the haggadah through a long process which took about five and a half years. Designing the letters of the haggadah was accomplished through integration of the Ashkenazic and Italian traditions, and there is a delicate preservation of the fine line between tradition and innovation. All the etchings in the haggadah are connected in their different aspects of the process of formation and creation according to Boussidan's worldview that the basis for the exodus from Egypt is the birth of the nation. The human figures, the view and the animals are designed in the haggadah as they supposedly were at the beginning of their creation. The freedom which is the essence of the haggadah was interpreted by Boussidan as an inclusive freedom, which also included disregard of the conventional chronology of art history, and brings us the work before us which is one-of-a-kind, a breakthrough in the entire field of art in the 20th century.

The haggadah was released by Boussidan in fifty signed and numbered copies. The copy before us is number 42, signed by Boussidan. The etchings in the haggadah are signed and numbered as well.

The haggadah is drawn on thick quality paper. 42 cm. Very fine condition.
