Shtei HaLechem. Wandsbek, 1733. First Edition, Signatures
Shtei HaLechem responsa by Rabbi Moshe Chagiz, first edition. The author, among the great fighters against the Sabbateans, and the one who became famous when he fought for excommunication of the RaMCha"l. First edition which was printed in the author's lifetime.
Rabbi Moshe Chagiz, 1672-1750, was born in Jerusalem. He was orphaned of his father at a young age and educated by his mother's father, Rabbi Moshe Galante. He served as an emissary in Italy and in Holland, and later in Egypt. He was among the great opponents of Sabbateanism, and against this backdrop, he fled Amsterdam after supporters of Nechemiah Chayun the Sabbatean persecuted him. As part of the struggle, he also opposed learning kabbalah and sought to ban it. His letter about the RaMCha"l lit the fire of dispute about the RaMCha"l, and in its wake, the RaMCha"l's writings were hidden.
