Non-Traditional Haggadah - Kibbutz Gvat, 1949

Stencil print with illustrations and original passages presenting the fate of the Jewish people in exile in contrast to taking its fate into its own hands in its own country, which is being built. The leaves of the haggadah were printed on one side.

The "Mah Nishtanah" text appears in the form of a question with an "answer" at the end: "Each generation with its questions, each generation with its answers" "Every day and every night Jews were hungry for light and hope, and on seder nights the candle of hope kindled in their hearts and the feeling of freedom stirred? Across all the seder nights over two thousand years windows were shuttered in Jewish homes, doors were locked - and this night, flooded with light and radiance, will the heart fear and expand? And why, in the midst of the great joy and radiant holiday does sadness nest ...? Answer: Two days ago we were robbed, yesterday we were destroyed, today we rebelled and tomorrow we will also rebel ..."

In a text for drinking "L'Chaim" it is written: "To the life of the fighters of Israel where ever they are, to the life of man who conquers his freedom and builds it each day anew!" There then appears a passage opening with the words "The gate of creation" which contains "The dance of freedom" accompanied by patriotic segments: "Ten plagues for the enemy is not enough ... the freedom achieved with the blood of our best sons, freedom will be when its purchasers do not stand in the middle of the road. Happy is the generation whose sons bring the redemption, they and not others, they and not messengers, they, in their bodies and with their souls ..." and more.

Kibbutz "Gvat" in the Jezreel Valley was founded in 1926 by a group of immigrants from the third and fourth (waves of) immigration from Pinsk, Poland. When they immigrated to Israel the established "The Group Named for the Martyrs of Pinsk" in memory of 35 members of the city's Jewish community who were executed by the Polish army in 1919 due to being suspected of Communism.
