The New York Synagogue, the first in a series of artistic miniatures of historic synagogues.

A new series of artistic miniatures presents the splendor of Judaism - a collection of historical synagogues from around the world. Eliezer Weishoff, in virtuosity and precision, created miniature transcripts of the important buildings. At this stage, five miniatures are planned, the first of which is dedicated to the She'erit Israel Synagogue in New York.

This synagogue was built in 1860 by the community of She'erit Israel, the first in North America. This community grew out of a core of 23 Sephardic and Portuguese Jews who fled to New Amsterdam from the horrors of the Inquisition in Brazil after it was conquered by the Portuguese. The renowned architect Arnold Brunner planned the building. In the synagogue are the remains of previous synagogues of the community, which emphasize its strong continuity.

The replica, made of pewter, faithfully recreates the imposing structure, the miniature is a "Mikdash Me'at" that can be put into the house.
