Rare Historical Booklet for the Benefit of the Jews of Germany – by the American Secretary of the Interior who Led the Struggle against Anti-Semitism and for the Jews of Germany during the Holocaust – the Gentile who Called the Jews of America to Awaken
The unbelievable story about the Jews who fell asleep on their watch and a righteous gentile who joined the members of Beitar in their efforts to awaken the Jews to vigorous action.
Palestine and the destiny of the Jewish people / by Harold L. Ickes ... with a message from President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Harold L. Ickes (1874-1952) was a prominent social activist and a leading fighter for human rights. He held a very important position: he was the American secretary of the interior during the presidency of Roosevelt. Ickes was shocked by the rise of the Nazis in Germany and worried by the situation of the German Jews. He started to act in their favor and to his amazement, found out that some influential Jewish American leaders were indifferent to what was happening. He understood what those Jewish leaders did not that the situation was awful and the Jews were in great danger. He found supporters of his opinion among the Revisionists, since Jabotinsky was among the few who understood that Europe in its entirety was facing grave danger.
Among others, Ickes suggested in 1938 to settle all the German Jews in Alaska, since Alaska did not limit the number of Jews who could enter it. The American government supported his plan; yet Jewish and Zionist leader rejected it, claiming it would be claimed that the Jews were taking for themselves territory that belonged to the USA. Although this plan of his failed, Icke succeeded by other actions to help bring thousands of Jewish refugees to the USA.
Undoubtedly, Ickes will be remembered in the Golden Book of Righteous Gentiles as a gentile who devoted his time and best efforts to saving Jews from Europe. He once said: "I have saved America from shame".
Extremely rare!
