Series of Original Photographs from the Wedding of Rabbi She'ar Yashuv Ha'Cohen, Dressed in the Uniform of the IDF, beside His Kabbalist Father Rabbi David Ha'Cohen, the Jerusalemite 'Nazir' and His Brother-in-Law Rabbi Shlomo Goren – 1953
On the fourth of Shevat 1953, the wedding of Rabbi She'ar Yashuv Ha'Cohen took place. After consulting with his brother-in-law, Rabbi Shlomo Goren, who was then the Military Chief Rabbi, and with his bride Naomi, Rabbi She'ar Yashuv (who was then the rabbi of the IDF air force) decided that the wedding ceremony will be a military one: he was dressed with the dress uniform of the air force and two rows of IDF officers accompanied him to his Chupah.
This fact puzzled several of the guests, who approached Rabbi Zvi Yehuda Ha'Cohen Kook, who was also present at the wedding, to ask whether it was appropriate for a groom to stand under his Chupah dressed with the IDF uniform when it was customary for a groom to come to his wedding dressed with honorable Sabbath clothes.
Rabbi Zvi Yehuda answered: "On the contrary, these clothes are the most suitable since a groom is like a king and these – the IDF uniform – are clothes fit for a king. They have original innate holiness. (See Ha'Ish al Ha'Edah, p. 132).
Twelve lovely, rare photographs:
A photograph of Ha'Rav Ha'Nazir leading his son to the Chupah. Ha'Nazir, Rabbi Shlomo Goren and the bride's father are holding candles.
A Photograph of Ha'Rav Ha'Nazir holding his son's hand before the Chupah.
A beautiful photograph of Ha'Rav Ha'Nazir wearing a prayer shawl standing beside Rabbi Shlomo Goren, who is also wearing a prayer shawl and taking of his Tefillin. The picture was taken during the Brit Milah of Rabbi Goren's son.
Two family photographs (almost identical) of the family member sof Ha'Rav Ha'Nazir, with him sitting at the center, the groom beside him and Rabbi Shlomo Goren standing behind him.
A photograph of Chief Rabbi, Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac Herzog, Ha'rav Ha'nazir and Rabbi Shlomo Goren during the wedding feast.
A photograph of the above during the feast, with Rabbi Goren slicing the Chalah.
Five photographs of the wedding feast depicting Rabbi She'ar Yashuv, his father Ha'rav Ha'Nazir, his brother-in-law Rabbi Shlomo Goren and additional rabbis and figures.
Condition: Very Good.
