Seder Haggadah shel Pesach according to the custom of the Karaite Jews. Printed in Egypt, [1903]. Stamped with the stamp of the Karaite Beit Din of Egypt.
This is a special, unusual Passover Haggadah: it contains a version of the Haggadah that differs from the standard version of the Haggadah as we know it. The Haggadah is a Karaite one, that it, it was authored by the members of a community that does not accept the tradition of the Sages but only the verses of the Scriptures. Today, the Karaite community is minor; however, in the past it was much more impressive, had important scholars and interesting compositions. Egypt was an important Karaite center until the establishment of the State of Israel; then many Karaite Jews immigrated to the Land of Israel.
The Haggadah before us was printed in the most relevant location for Passover: Egypt…

There are textual variation in the blessing of the Matzah, the Marror, the Kiddush, the blessing on the wine and additional blessings. There is no custom of drinking four cups of wine in the Karaite Leil Seder and the wine for the Kiddush is made of soaked raisins.
Naturally, only a limited number of copies was printed of this Haggadah, since it was designated for the members of the Karaite community only. Somehow, a copy had survived and made its way to the land of Israel.
