He met members of gang who pounced on him yet miraculously, he escaped them. Subsequently, he printed his book "Barchi Nafshi". Rabbi Eliezer Zussia Portugal of Skolen recalled that once on a winter night, Rabbi Roller could not find a Minyan for praying Aravit.
