Illuminated Ketubah on Paper. Herat, Afghanistan, 1897
Ketubah for groom Ephraim son of Dadash Gol and bride Miriam daughter of Sasson Gol. Herat [Afghanistan], [1897].
Illustrated borders, gates, flowers and vases in blue, red and yellow, integrated with verses and blessings related to marriage.
This ketubah is illustrated in Encyclopaedia Judaica, Jerusalem, Keter Publishing, 1972. Volume 10, color plate between col. 940 and 941. It was also exhibited at the New York World's Fair, 1964-1965.
47x42 cm. Moderate-fine condition, fold marks, small tear in center of the fold lines, stains and ink smears.
